Natural Dye Development & Research
Research & Development Project
This project explored traditional natural Indigo VAT dyeing methods through research, material experimentation, and collaboration with specialist dye houses in Ghana.
The objective was to investigate sustainable dyeing techniques while gaining a deeper understanding of traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and alternative production methods within contemporary fashion product development.
The project involved extensive experimentation with natural dye processes, testing colour consistency, evaluating fabric performance, and documenting development outcomes to better understand the relationship between material, process, and final product.
Working directly with specialist artisans provided valuable insight into traditional production techniques, sustainable manufacturing practices, and the integration of heritage craftsmanship within modern product development.
This research strengthened my understanding of textile innovation, sustainable design practices, and material development while reinforcing the importance of collaboration, experimentation, and continuous learning within the product development process.
